MMUST Dr. Rose Opiyo Expands IHELP Project by Establishing the Fourth IHELP Caregiving Centre

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology's IHELP project Principal Investigator, Dr. Rose Opiyo has advanced the project by establishing a fourth Inclusive Home-Based Early Learning Centre in Idakho East, Ikolomani Sub-County. Yesterday, 22nd September 2022, Dr. Opiyo met the Shiveye ward administrators, Community leadership, and its members to discuss issues pertaining to the establishment of a Caregiving center in the region.

MMUST’s African Women in Science and Engineering Step Up Efforts to Keep Girls in School Through Provision of Free Sanitary Towels

MMUST’s African women in Science and Engineering (AWSE) have stepped up efforts to keep girls in school through provision of free sanitary towels.  On 7th September, 2022, the team of scholars led by Prof. Elizabeth Omukunda, Dr. Rose Opiyo and Dr. Frida Njeru visited Amalemba and Kakamega primary schools with the aim of encouraging the girls and donating the sanitary towels. This outreach activity is part of the AWSE initiative to support the girl child in Kakamega County.

The head teacher, Amalemba Primary School, Miss Grace Baraza thanked the team and the University for remembering her girls and for contributing towards keeping them in school. She revealed that the school has had previous incidences of learners being lured into early sexual activities for material things due to high poverty levels in the region.

MMUST’s Leading Ecologist Dr. Humphrey Agevi Picked to Join PlanAdapt As a Fellow

MMUST’s leading Ecologist and Specialist in Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience, Dr. Humphrey Agevi, has been picked to join the PlanAdapt organization as a Fellow. Dr. Agevi is a lecturer from the Department of Biological Sciences in the School of Natural Sciences (SONAS). The Fellowship is domiciled in Germany and will involve the identified Fellows attending Climate Co-adaptation Lab Weekly meetings every Tuesday where they go through the Lab Opportunity Database (LOD).

MMUST Impacts Communities Through the Visibility of Their Businesses and Enterprises

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), through the Webometrics and Short Courses Unit, has continued with the initiative to impact the communities by providing visibility to their enterprises and businesses.

Yesterday, 19th September 2022, the Director, Science Park Innovation and Incubation Centre (SPIIC), Prof. John Muoma together with lecturer- Crop Protection, Dr. Emily N. Indakwa, visited ‘Ammanuel Poultry and Animal Feeds’ in Indangalasia- Navakholo Sub-County to identify possible areas of collaboration with the Farm. The ‘Ammanuel Poultry and Animal Feeds’ which was founded by Mr. Kennedy Masanga, is a one-stop farm for poultry, animal feeds and organic farm produce.

MMUST Establishes Institutional Partnerships Through Online Evidence of Collaboration in Tandem With Sustainable Development Goals

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) Webometrics Unit, has established various institutional partnerships with key stakeholders to generate online evidence of collaboration in tandem with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).  The two-tire strategy which involves establishment of online evidence of collaboration is aimed at promoting the use of ICT tools in trade and service delivery in institutions and entities within the Lake Region Economic Bloc. This strategy is steered by the Webometrics and Short Courses Coordinator, Dr. Dennis W. Ochieno.

MMUST and Malteser International Begin Implementation of Upesi Health Programme Through Refurbishing and Equipping of MMUST’s High Fidelity Simulated Laboratory!

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) and Malteser International (MI) have begun the implementation of ‘Upesi Health Programme’ which involves refurbishing and equipping of MMUST’s high fidelity simulated laboratory. Today, Wednesday 7th September, 2022, a team from MI led by the Country Coordinator, Mr. Martin Schoemburg, paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo to discuss the modalities of refurbishing and equipping. The event whose key drivers are the Health Program Manager, Kenya-Malteser International, Ms.  Joy China and the Project President at MMUST, Dr. Tecla Sum, took place at the VC’s office.
