MMUST Students Pursuing Security Intelligence Studies and Disaster Management Gain Hands on Skills as They Undertake Field Practicum

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) students pursuing a Diploma and Certificate in Security Intelligence Studies and Disaster Management have gained hands-on skills during a three-day field practicum in Budalangi. This is a compulsory practical component that is carried out as part of their learning program every Academic Year.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) exhibited an array of innovations at the Kenya Health Care Science Innovation Challenge Annual Awards held on 25 and 26 November 2022 at the United States International University (USIU), Africa. This 1st Pharmaceutical Science of Kenya Healthcare Innovation Annual Challenge Award was aimed at providing a platform for innovators in academia and industry to showcase their innovation with the aim of identifying potential partners.

The Inter-Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK)-Kakamega Chapter on Tuesday, 22nd November 2022, visited MMUST to discuss possible areas of collaboration. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo and DVC (Planning, Research and Innovation), Prof. Charles Mutai received the team, which was led by the Inter Faith Chairman of IRCK-Kakamega County, Bishop Olumasai Nicholas. The Inter-Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK) is a coalition of all major faith communities in Kenya that works together to deepen inter-faith dialogue and collaboration among members, for a common endeavour to mobilise the unique moral and social resources of religious people and address shared concerns.

This was during the one-day Workshop held in Kisumu Hotel on Monday, 21st November, 2022, which was organized by the MMUST Webometrics and Publishing Committee.

MMUST MOU With African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute Set to Intensify ICT Training and Research

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI) in a bid to enhance ICT training and research. The MoU was signed on Tuesday, 22nd November, 2022, by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo, and the Director, AFRALTI, Mr. William Baraza, on behalf of their respective institutions.

Scholars across the globe have showcased efforts to champion resilient and sustainable systems for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education. This was during the 3 to 18was graced by the University Chancellor, Dr. Peter Wanyaga Muthoka.

Expressing his delight, the Chancellor, noted that the conference is indeed a unique platform for the scholars to come together and shape the future of STEM Education in the Post Covid-19 Pandemic Era. He revealed that the University is keen on harnessing efforts to build strong STEM societies as part of its mandate in training the next generation.

MMUST Provides Capacity Building to Its Staff in Rolling Out Industry Driven Curriculum for the University’s TVET Institute

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has provided capacity building to its staff in rolling out industry driven curriculum for the University’s TVET Institute This was during a two-day Curriculum and Review workshop which was held on 17th and 18th November, 2022 at Golf Hotel- Kakamega. The aim of the training was to polish curriculum, occupational standards and assessment tools to meet the policies of TVETA. This workshop brought together stakeholders from diverse fields who deliberated on effective Curriculum Framework that aligns with Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET).

A team from the University of Nairobi Enterprises and Services Limited (UNES), has today 15th November 2022, paid a courtesy call to the Office of the Vice Chancellor. The two institutions have an active Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed five years ago, which accorded MMUST the opportunity to implement UNES’ HealthIT project. The project, led in collaboration with the Government of Kenya (GoK)- Ministry of Health, aims at strengthening national information systems that support reporting, providing data for decision-making, and improving human capacity on the use of health systems, quality data capture, and reporting.

Scientists present at the just concluded webinar on ‘The Implication of Approval of GMO Crops for Farmers in Western Kenya’ at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) have advised farmers from Western region to adopt the Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) crops. The scientists cited GMO as an important bio technology that complements the existing practices to help our farmers address Agricultural challenges. The webinar which was held on 11th November, 2022, was graced by the Registrar, Planning Research and Innovation, Prof. Alice Ndiema and the Director, Research and Postgraduate Support, Prof. Peter Bukhala.
