MMUST Conducts Two-day Workshop to Enhance Researchers’ Understanding of Intellectual Property Rights

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, through the Directorate of Directorate of Science Park Innovation and Incubation Centre (SPIIC), has conducted a two-day workshop in an effort to enhance researchers’ understanding of Intellectual Property(IP) as well as Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). The Workshop, which took place from Thursday, 27th October, 2022 to Friday, 28th October, 2022, involved all staff with ongoing funding as well as those previously funded through the University Innovation Fund (UIF).

MMUST in collaboration with Light for the world and the Standard Chartered Bank on Thursday, 27th October, 2022 commenced a two-day mentorship program to champion Future Makers Inclusive Employability. This was aimed at taking the staff and students through disability awareness training as well as conducting disability awareness score card for the institution. As part of the collaboration, on Friday, 28th October, 2022, MMUST hosted the Standard Chartered Bank Marathon that was officially flagged off by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo who was also part of about for hundred (400) participants.

The event was geared towards providing students with the knowledge and how to be ready for the job market, providing students with advice and how they can make their technical skills match the job market demand as well as providing opportunities for the mentor to interact with the students and help them demystify myths or challenges on employability and professional growth.

The IHELP project has continued to advance as the Principal Investigator, Dr. Rose Opiyo unveiled the fifth Inclusive Home-Based Early Learning Centre in Idakho East, Ikolomani Sub-County. Yesterday, 27th October 2022, Dr. Opiyo met the Shiveye Ward Administrators, Community leadership, and its members for a public participation exercise to discuss issues pertaining to the establishment of another Caregiving center in the region.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, in conjunction with the Social Science Research Council (SSRC), the African Peacebuilding Network (APN) and the Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa (NextGen), has conducted an outreach activity in a bid to familiarize MMUST staff and students with SSRC grant opportunities. On Friday, 21st October, 2022, MMUST hosted SSRC officials for a Workshop that drew scholars from various departments in the University as well as other institutions of higher learning.

MMUST Institute of Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Studies Gives New Impetus to Preservation of Culture as They Host His Majesty Nabongo Maurice Rapando the 2nd

The Institute of Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Studies (IIKCS) at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, has given new impetus to the effort to preserve Kenya’s tangible and intangible heritage. On 25th October 2022, the institute held a one-day Strategic Direction Workshop themed ‘Leveraging Indigenous Knowledge and Culture for Sustainable Development’. This workshop drew various stakeholders from diverse cultural backgrounds and institutions including His Royal Majesty Nabongo Maurice Rapando II from the Wanga Kingdom.

Mumias East MP Hon. Peter Salaysa Pays a Courtesy Call to the Office of the Vice Chancellor

Mumias East MP Hon. Peter Salasya has today 24th October 2022 paid a courtesy call to the office of the Vice Chancellor. The two discussed a range of issues concerning the University including offering support to needy students through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Kitty. Hon Peter Salasya commended MMUST for peace and tranquillity as there have been few strikes witnessed in the institution in the recent years. He also congratulated the Vice Chancellor on the good management of the University. He expressed interest in partnering with MMUST to support TVET education in the region.

Biophysical Society Sponsored Networking Conference is Set to Demystify Biophysics Among MMUST Staff and Students

The just concluded Biophysical Society Sponsored Networking Conference is set to demystify Biophysics among the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology staff and students. This was evident during the workshop held on Friday, 21st October, 2022 at the Main Catering Unit (MCU) Boardroom which was organized by the Biophysics Society (BPS) Ambassador Kenya/ Africa, Dr. Philip Amuyunzu. The event was geared towards Sensitization, Dissemination and Advocacy’ of Biophysical Science.

MMUST Staff Retirement Benefits Scheme Conducts Pre-retirement Planning Seminar for Its Staff

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), Staff Retirement Benefits Scheme on 21st and 22nd October 2022, conducted a pre-retirement planning seminar for its staff approaching retirement. This two-day training which was held at the Kakamega Sports Club was steered by consultants from the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA). The consultants included Ms. Agnes Mwenda, Ms. Christine Onyango, Mr. Julius Were, Mr. Vincent Ogutu, Mr. David Letio, and Mr. Benson Odongo.
