MMUST Vice Chancellor Addresses First Year Students as Orientation Process Concludes

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo, has today, 2nd September, 2022 addressed first year students as the weeklong orientation process came to a conclusion. This key event, which took place at the Graduation Grounds was designed for the Vice Chancellor to interact and officially welcome the new students to campus. The event was also attended by the DVC, Administration and Finance (A&F) and DVC Academic and Students affairs, deans and directors, Chairpersons of departments, academic and non- academic staff as well as the other continuing students.

Speaking during the event, Prof. Shibairo acknowledged the MMUST’s freshmen as he applauded them for excelling in their KCSE examinations and gaining entry into this incredible community of higher learning. He assured the students that they made an excellent choice to join MMUST.

MMUST Vice Chancellor Hosts a Section of First Year Students to Luncheon

Masinde Muliro University of Science Technology (MMUST) Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof. Solomon Shibairo has today, 2nd September 2022, hosted a section of first-year students from the farthest and nearest locations from the University for a luncheon. The eight (8) students who joined the University recently, had a one-on-one interaction with the VC during their luncheon.

They were also accompanied by the Masinde Muliro University Students Organization (MMUSO) Chairman, Mr. Samuel Motari, and Vice Chairperson, Ms. Cynthia Muthoni.

MMUST STEPS UP EFFORTS TO IMPROVE INFRASTRUCTURAL FACILITIES FOR STAFF AND STUDENTS

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has stepped up efforts to improve infrastructural facilities for staff and students. This was evident during the Vice Chancellor’s inspection of ongoing projects today, 26th August, 2022. 

Prof. Solomon Shibairo commenced his inspection with the footbridge connecting to Hall Four (4) students’ residence followed by TVET complex and the Olympic size swimming pool. While inspecting the projects, he commended the projects’ supervisors for the work done. He instructed the Estate Manager to continue improving the beauty of the University by planting more flowers and trees to keep our environment more attractive. He further directed that more parking space be created, to avoid dangerous and disorganised parking within the University.

MMUST and Immunify- Life Launch Hiv and Aids Project That Utilizes Block- Chain Technology to Transform Health Outcomes

MMUST and Immunify- Life have today, 3rd August, 2022 jointly launched an HIV and AIDS project that will utilize block- chain technology to transform health outcomes in Western Kenya. The event which was held at ABA 515 and presided over by the DVC, Planning Research and Innovation (PRI), Prof. Charles Mutai, specifically aims at enhancing outcomes for HIV and AIDS patients with suspected treatment failure through innovation and technology. The study is spearheaded by the founder, Immunify- Life, Mr. Guy Newing and coordinated at MMUST by Dr. Tecla Sum. The project activities that commenced today will go on up to February, 2023.

The findings of the project themed Enhancing Healthcare through Innovation and Technology’ will be evaluated to inform the rollout of the application in Western Kenya and the entire country. Mr. Newing pointed out that this project will impact healthcare practice in Kenya and Africa through the Integrated Cloud Based System for purposes of improving treatment outcomes for patients with suspected treatment failure.

Prof. George Owuor Lawi Wins the Highly Sought-after Staff Retirement Benefits Scheme ‘trustee’ Elections Seat for Academic Staff

Prof. George Owuor Lawi has today, 2nd July 2022 won the highly coveted Staff Retirement Benefits Scheme ‘Trustee’ seat in elections for academic staff conducted at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) with 103 votes against his competitor’s 83 votes. The Trustee position attracted two contestants; Prof. George Owuor Lawi from the School of Natural Sciences and Mr. Robinson Oduma from the School of Arts and Social Sciences.

Speaking after shaking hands with his competitor Mr. Robinson Oduma, the new Trustee for academic staff Prof. Lawi promised to work very hard together with the team at the Scheme to ensure that it grows and that academic staff can reap the desired benefits during his tenure.

MMUST IHELP Principal Investigator Dr. Rose Opiyo and Ugandan Counterpart Prof. Godfrey Ejuu Carry Out Impact Assessment of IHELP Centres in Kenya

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) IHELP Principal Investigator Dr. Rose Opiyo and Ugandan counterpart Prof. Godfrey Ejuu, from Kyambogo University, have just concluded the impact assessment of IHELP centres in Ikolomani Sub-County-Kenya. The three-day impact assessment has revealed the great benefits and improvement of livelihoods in communities targeted by the Inclusive Home-Based Learning Project. The key objectives of the research were knowledge sharing, capacity building of parents and caregivers as well as system strengthening to promote early learning.

Speaking during a courtesy call by the IHELP researchers to his office, the Ag. Kakamega County Executive Committee Member for Education Science and Technology, Dr. George Lutomia, noted that Inclusive Home-Based caregiving has been a missing link and that the IHELP project will help in bridging the gap. He further said that the County Government of Kakamega has positively received the project and is ready to support it to ensure that a Childcare Care Center is established in collaboration with MMUST.

BBC Journalists Visit MMUST to Establish Perceptions of Young First-Time Voters Regarding the Forthcoming Elections

We are pleased to inform you that British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) journalists visited Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) with the aim of establishing perceptions of young first- time voters regarding the forthcoming elections. The BBC team was received by the Director, Corporate Communications and Marketing, Dr. Lydia Anyonje and the MMUST’s Radio Producer, Mr. Elvis Chamegere. The event which was held today, 27th July, 2022, captures the voices of youths on the essence of good leadership, upcoming elections and sentiments of young- first- time voters in Kakamega County represented by the University students.

MMUST Researcher Dr. Rose Opiyo Hosts IHELP Partners From Kyambogo University as the Team Gears Up for Impact Assessment

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology iHELP project Principal Investigator, Dr. Rose Opiyo, has today, 26th July 2022 hosted IHELP partners from Kyambogo University, as the team gears up for impact assessment. The team from Kyambogo University are around the entire week and will be visiting the established IHELP centers to assess and evaluate the advancement of the project.

The IHELP partners from Kyambogo University included the Co-Principal Investigator, Prof. Godfrey Ejuu, project coordinator- Dr. Martin Omonding, project Focal Person-Dr. Miria Nandera; Research Assistants, Mr. Lubanga Elvis and Mr. Emmanuel Emiau.The visiting researchers paid a courtesy call to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Planning Research and Innovation, who commended them for the collaboration to ensure sustainability of the Inclusive Home-Based Early Learning project. 

MMUST Joins Ball State University’s Prof. Winnie Muchera Community Engagement Initiative at Shivembe Primary School, Vihiga County

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo, on Friday, 22nd July, 2022, joined Prof. Winnie Muchera of Ball State University in marking the annual community engagement initiative at Shivembe Primary School, Vihiga County.

“MMUST has had a Memorandum of Understanding with Ball State University for more than 10 years. The two Universities have worked together in a number of activities including community outreach,” stated Prof. Solomon Shibairo. The Vice Chancellor assured Prof. Muchera of continued support and urged students to follow in her footsteps. “I hope to see students from Shivembe Primary School do great things in this community and beyond,” he said.
