
MMUST TVET College Gears Up to Welcome First Cohort of Government-Placed Students
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology’s (MMUST) Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College is making final preparations to welcome its first cohort of over 300 government-sponsored students this September. The College, which recently relocated to its Webuye campus, has received official communication from the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) regarding the student allocations. The College’s readiness was affirmed during a visit on 17th July, 2025, by a delegation of Deans from various Schools at the main institution, MMUST. The visit served as a final inspection to ascertain the college’s facilities and operational preparedness ahead of the main intake.

Speaking on behalf of the Ag Deputy Vice Chancellor for Planning, Research and Innovation (DVC PRI)-Prof. Peter Bukhala, Dr. Issah Kweyu lauded the substantial investments made in the college’s facilities and academic systems. He highlighted the availability of a comprehensive curriculum, adequate lecture halls, and fully-equipped laboratories saying that these investments will ensure a seamless learning experience for the students.
“We are incredibly impressed by the robust foundation laid here. The MMUST TVET College curriculum is CBC informed and it has also adopted Community Service Learning to aid in the delivery of practical skills,” said Dr. Kweyu. Additionally, he challenged the management of the College to think beyond offering standard programmes and strive to make the institution a Centre of Excellence for different specialties. “We can open satellite campuses of several establishments including sports. This will open a window for community activities because of the availability of qualified technical expertise,” he advised.

Representing the Registrar Academic affairs, Dr. Eric Wangila emphasized the importance of inclusive education and called for all trainers to undergo pedagogical training to enhance the quality of instruction. “Learning is a fundamental right, and every individual deserves access to quality training. By investing in pedagogical training, we empower our trainers to deliver learner-focused education,” stated Dr. Wangila.
Similarly, the Ag. Principal MMUST TVET College, Prof. Stephen Odebero expressed full confidence in the institution’s preparedness, citing the dedication of staff and the alignment of all departments towards academic excellence. “This campus is on track to become a Centre of Excellence in vocational training. We came to Webuye in March and within a span of three months, we have made a lot of progress. Currently we have 30 students in session and we look forward to welcoming the 300 who chose us through KUCCPS,” he affirmed, underscoring the value of deepening community engagement to support mutual development.

Certainly, with strong leadership, committed faculty, and a student-focused environment, the College is poised to deliver technical training that will equip its learners with practical, competitive skills for today’s dynamic job market besides boosting the livelihoods of the host community.
