
H. E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto Commends MMUST as One of the Institutions Leading the Pack in Implementing the Government’s Development Agenda
The President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E Dr. William Samoei Ruto, has commended Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology as one of the Institutions Leading the Pack in Implementing the Government’s Development Agenda. This was during the International Youth Day celebrations, hosted at MMUST on Tuesday, 12th August, 2025, which was also attended by the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports-Hon. Salim Mvurya, EGH, Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs-Hon. Dr. Wycliffe Oparanya, Principal Secretary, State Department for Higher Education and Research-Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, Principal Secretary, State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy-Mr. Fikirini Jacobs and the Governor, County Government of Kakamega-H. E FCPA Fernandes Barasa. The University Chairperson of Council-Dr. Pamela Sitienei and the Vice Chancellor-Prof. Solomon Shibairo were among the high-profile participants at the event.

During the event embodied in the global theme, ‘Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond’, President Ruto unveiled job-creation initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities, fostering innovation, and positioning Kenya’s youth at the forefront of national development. The President assured the University of the Government’s continued support especially in the construction of affordable student hostels. He further commended MMUST for its role in supporting the Government’s development agenda.

Through its research and innovative initiatives, MMUST has certainly remained committed to not only advancing national development, but also nurturing young people from diverse backgrounds to learn, grow and engage with global issues. This year’s celebrations highlighted the unique role of youth in translating global ambitions into community-driven realities and this perfectly aligns with the University’s goals.
