
The Global Centre for Adaptation in Partnership With MMUST and University of Nairobi Champions Youth-Led Climate Adaptation Actions in Africa
The Global Centre for Adaptation (GCA), in partnership with Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) and the University of Nairobi (UoN), have joined forces to spearhead youth-led solutions to Africa’s climate crisis through the ‘Pan-African Youth Climate and Adaptation Forum.’ The three institutions are conducting a five-day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop the Kenya School of Government, Nairobi. The workshop, which commenced on 31st August and is scheduled to end on 5th September 2025, has brought together youth leaders from 50 African countries, and is geared towards strengthening Africa’s climate adaptation agenda. This timely initiative seeks to equip the ‘Young Change Makers’ with requisite knowledge and leadership skills in climate adaptation, resilience and entrepreneurship.

As a co-lead institution, MMUST is actively contributing to this transformative agenda through the expertise of the Associate Dean, School of Education-Dr. Rose Opiyo, COD Disaster Management and Sustainable Development-Dr. Nicodemus Nyandiko and CPA Stella Kabuga. Their participation underscores the University’s commitment to nurturing climate-conscious leadership and advancing innovative solutions that address Africa’s most pressing environmental challenges.

The experts at the Pan-African Youth Climate and Adaptation Forum emphasized the urgent need to build a strong, youth-led climate adaptation movement rooted in education and community action. They called for greater engagement with schools, universities, and youth organizations to embed climate adaptation into learning and leadership spaces. A central focus of the discussions was the importance of raising awareness and improving climate literacy among young people, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to address the growing impacts of climate change.

The forum also highlighted the power of youth-led solutions, urging the creation of platforms to share adaptation successes and innovations in Africa and the global community.
