
MMUST Set to Scale Up Performance and Positioning as the Institution Subjects Midterm Review of the MMUST Strategic Plan 2023–2027 to Public Participation
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) is set to scale up its performance and positioning through the Midterm Review of the institution’s Strategic Plan 2023- 2027. This was evident during the recent public participation exercise that took place on 30th June, 2026 at the Golf Hotel-Kakamega. The exercise involved members of the University management Board, the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellors, Senate and all Heads of Cost Centres. The aim of the event was to present progress on implementation of MMUST Strategic Plan, the major achievements, challenges and recommendations that required Senate consideration.

Speaking during the event which was organized by the Division of Planning, Research and Innovation, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo noted that the Mid-Term Review (MTR) assessed the implementation progress during July 2023 to December 2025 period. “The review findings indicate that the University has made commendable progress in implementing the Strategic Plan. The Senate has approved this document. As we move into the final phase of implementation, the University will focus on accelerating initiatives aimed at enhancing financial sustainability, research commercialization, digital transformation, infrastructure development, and institutional competitiveness. These priorities will be critical in ensuring achievement of the Strategic Plan targets by 2027,” he stated.

In his address, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Research and Innovation), Prof. Christopher Ngacho pointed out that the report provides valuable insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making, resource allocation, performance improvement, and accelerated implementation of priority interventions during the remaining period of the Strategic Plan. “The views of all stakeholders who have given us feedback will be incorporated and mainstreamed into the activities and deliverables of the remaining duration of the 2023-2027 plan,” said Prof. Ngacho.

Pointing out the need for the University to conduct frequent monitoring and evaluation, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs), Prof. Hussein Golicha stated that achieving the key targets set in the Strategic Plan requires concerted efforts by all members of the University. He congratulated the Division of Planning, Research and Innovation for spearheading the measurement of staff performance and achievement of targets.
The Registrar (Planning, Research and Innovation), Dr. Collins Matemba presented the Midterm Review of the MMUST Strategic Plan 2023- 2027 and moderated the public participation of MMUST staff, students and other stakeholders. He acknowledged the input of various Directorates, Schools and Cost Centres, which made it possible for the Division to compile a comprehensive report. “The key achievements of the institution during the review period included strengthening of governance, increase in student enrolment, and boosting of research productivity,” asserted Dr. Matemba.

Indeed, this exercise provided MMUST and its stakeholders an opportunity to evaluate progress, assess challenges facing the institution, and come up with strategies to ensure that the University not only achieves its mandate of quality teaching, research and community service, but also scales up its performance in all spheres. Clearly, MMUST has what it takes to advance its goals and solidify its positioning in the region.
