MMUST Delegation Represent the University at International Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit in Romania
A delegation from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) participated in a prestigious Erasmus+ international exchange program hosted by the University of Life Sciences ‘King Mihai I’ in Timisoara, Romania. The week-long summit, which took place from 19th to 26th July 2026, brought together scholars, researchers, and higher education leaders from across the globe to deliberate on the theme, ‘Artificial Intelligence Connecting Higher Education Institutions in the Internationalization Process.’MMUST was represented by a delegation comprising seven members of staff and two postgraduate students. The team included Prof. Hussein Golicha, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs); Dr. David Barasa (Associate Dean, School of Arts and Social Sciences); Dr. Rev. Fr. Kizito Lusambili Muchanga; Mr. Moses Adama; Dr. Frida Miruka; Dr. Kollenberg Mario; and Dr. Philip Ogutu.
MMUST team shares a light moment in Romania.
The summit focused on internationalization, networking strategy, and intensive discussions regarding the current era of Artificial Intelligence. As part of the programme, the MMUST team engaged in the core technical tracks under the sub-theme: Artificial Intelligence for Higher Education. They visited state-of-the-art research platforms and a dedicated AI Laboratory at the host institution. Similarly, the scholars participated in interactive sessions showcasing how advanced machine learning algorithms can be utilized within the field of medicine. The team also explored the integration of drones for precision land surveys and automated data collection in agricultural production, offering a top-notch scholarly interaction that directly mirrors developmental priorities in Kenya.

A highlight of the summit came on the third day, when Kenyan institutions showcased their research during a dedicated research track, presenting six innovative papers that integrated indigenous knowledge systems, ecological conservation, and emerging technologies. The presentations offered an interactive platform for the MMUST delegation to engage with global peers on sustainable resource management and tech-driven environmental solutions. The delegation also joined an afternoon guided tour of the university’s research facilities, cementing long-term institutional partnerships.
