
Canadian High Commission Delegate Pays Courtesy Call on MMUST VC, to Discuss Possible Areas of Collaboration
On 13th August, 2025, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) hosted the Trade Commissioner Assistant in charge of the education sector at the Canadian High Commission, Ms. Charity Kabaya, for discussions on possible areas of collaboration. Ms. Kabaya, who was accompanied by the Chairman of University of Kabianga Council, Prof. Bosire Mwebi, was officially received by the Vice Chancellor- Prof. Solomon Shibairo.

The meeting included a number of University’s section heads who presented their departmental mandates and identified areas for potential partnership. They included the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic and Student Affairs-Prof. Hussein Golicha, Ag. Director Postgraduate Studies-Prof. Kennedy Bota, Dean School of Medicine-Dr. Anthony Sifuna, Director Webometrics and Short Courses-Dr. Dennis Ochieno, Associate Dean SAVET- Dr. Muleke Everlyne Mmbone, and Dr. Kelvin Machuki, who was representing the Director International Relations and Academic Linkages (DIAL), Dr. Umulkher Ali. The discussions focused on opportunities for collaboration in training, research, and innovation, including joint research initiatives, consultancies, curriculum development and costing for short courses, as well as student and faculty exchange programs.

Speaking during the meeting, Ms. Kabaya said that the Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) is keen to identify areas of collaboration between Canadian and Kenyan institutions such as MMUST, recognizing the region’s growing demand for specialized skills, innovation, and global academic engagement. “Canada is committed to broadening and deepening partnerships in the education sector, and we are eager to explore how our institutions can work together to support shared goals,” said Ms. Kabaya.
Upon maturity, this collaboration will provide MMUST with a unique opportunity to tap into advanced technologies and global best practices, which will move us closer to our vision of becoming the premier university in Science, Technology, and Innovation.
