
MMUST Staff and Students Embark on Academic and Cultural Exchange in Italy Courtesy of Erasmus+ KA171 Mobility Program
A team of staff and students from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), are currently participating in an enriching academic and cultural exchange programme in Turin-Italy, courtesy of the European Union-supported ‘Erasmus Mundus KA171’ project. The delegation is led by the Associate Dean of the School of Education who is also the project’s Principal Investigator- Dr. Rose Opiyo. The initiative allows the participants to gain invaluable international exposure, engage in collaborative research, and experience new cultures.
The initiative is aimed to promote international collaborations in higher education, strengthen institutional capacities, and provide participants with both academic and intercultural experiences.

Dr. Opiyo hailed the partnership, saying that this program has offered them an invaluable opportunity to experience the European higher education landscape and immerse themselves in a rich cultural environment. “I can assure you that the knowledge and networks we have developed here will contribute greatly to MMUST’s strategic vision of becoming a globally competitive institution. We are grateful to MMUST, the European Union and the University of Turin for making this possible,” stated Dr. Opiyo.
The other participants of the exchange programme included Dr. Elizabeth Mabele, a senior lecturer from the School of Education-MMUST and postgraduate students; Mr. Erastus Manoah, Ms. Damaris Muga, Mr. John Mwangi and Mr. Tom Ongwela.

During the visit, the MMUST team is participating in academic dialogues, student-led discussions, collaborative research presentations and strategic meetings with faculty from various departments aimed at fostering long-term partnerships for collaborative research and broader opportunities for both MMUST staff and students. In addition to the academic engagements, the team is also involved in recreational cultural activities, including guided tours of historical sites, and language exchange sessions.

Internationalization is one of the MMUST’s strategic pillars to becoming a center of excellence in education and innovation. ‘Erasmus+ KA171 Mobility Program’ has positioned our staff and students at the center of international academic networks which continues to elevate MMUST’s profile on the global stage.
