
MMUST and Busitema University-Uganda Explore New Areas of Cooperation in Renewed Collaborative Talks
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has renewed collaborative talks with Busitema University-Uganda, exploring new areas of cooperation. On Thursday, 9th July, 2026, the Vice Chancellor of Busitema University, Prof. Paul Waako, paid a courtesy call on the MMUST VC, Prof. Solomon Shibairo. This visit aimed to strengthen the longstanding partnership between the two (2) Universities and lay the foundation for a mutually beneficial collaboration.
Prof. Waako was accompanied by a delegation from his University, comprising; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs and Research), Prof. Saphira Biira; Dean-Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Dr. Godfrey Lubadde; Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Dr. Joseph Ddumba Lwanyaga; Dr. Samuel Baker Obakiro, a Senior Lecturer; Principal Legal Officer, Ms. Martha Apolot; and the Assistant Secretary-VC’s Office, Ms. Eseza Ariokot.

These renewed talks follow the expiration of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between MMUST and Busitema, which were signed in 2010 and 2012 respectively. Although the MoU and MoA expired, the two institutions have maintained a strong and active relationship, continuously collaborating on joint research projects, Conferences, training programmes as well as external examinations.
Busitema’s Vice Chancellor congratulated MMUST on its various achievements, particularly its significant growth in student enrollment. Pointing out that a number of his staff have trained at MMUST, Prof. Waako emphasized the importance of re-formalizing the partnership in order to continue driving joint research and innovation, faculty exchange and institutional growth.

Renewing the MoA between the two institutions will not only expand regional networking opportunities, but also position them to attract joint research funding. The next steps include identifying key priority areas for collaboration, creating a strategic framework that amplifies their combined academic influence and research output across East Africa.
