
AWSE-MMUST Chapter Inspires the Boy Child as It Leads Career Mentorship Workshop at St. Luke’s Boys’ High School, Kimilili
The Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology African Women in Science and Engineering (AWSE) Chapter has led a career mentorship Workshop at St. Luke’s Boys’ High School in Kimilili, inspiring over 500 KCSE candidates to make informed career choices. The mentorship exercise, held on Friday, 2nd October, 2026, was spearheaded by AWSE-MMUST Chapter Secretary, Dr. Annette Okoth, with the Dean-School of Engineering and Built Environment (SEBE), Eng. Prof. Bernadette Sabuni, delivering the keynote address. The event featured University staff and junior STEM ambassadors (primarily St. Luke’s alumni currently studying at MMUST)), who offered valuable insights into higher education opportunities, career choices as well as academic pathways.

In her address, Eng. Prof. Sabuni emphasized the importance of responsibility, challenging the boys to look beyond high school. “We are here to share our experiences so that you can learn from us. As you look into the future, ask yourselves: how will you stand out and make your mark?” she stated.
“As AWSE, we are committed to mentoring young people, and I am thrilled that we are engaging with young men today. Every member of my team has something valuable and inspiring to share, so I encourage you to take full advantage of this opportunity,” said Dr. Annette Okoth.

The Chief Principal, Mr. Innocent Bichange, officially welcomed the MMUST team to the school, before handing them over to the Head of the Career Department, Mr. Lucas Wachana. Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Wachana noted, “today was a successful day of learning, mentorship and inspiration. Our students have benefited from the keynote address, career guidance and one-on-one mentorship sessions. We sincerely appreciate MMUST for partnering with us for this Workshop and look forward to future collaborations.”

Notably, the AWSE-MMUST Chapter made a donation of bar soaps to the school. Other University staff present during the event were; Dr. Frida Njeru, Ms. Purity Muchere and Ms. Judy Dipondo.

The African Women in Science and Engineering-MMUST Chapter has led impactful career mentorship initiatives across Western Kenya, nurturing the next generation of STEM thought leaders. Its recent Workshop at St. Luke’s Boys’ High School in Kimilili demonstrated that AWSE’s mission extends beyond empowering young women to actively engaging and inspiring young men as well.
