New Dawn for MMUST as It Elects School Deans for Three-Year Term
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has today, 27th October, 2026, elected Deans to lead various Schools for a three-year term. In a highly competitive race, candidates vying for Deanship demonstrated political prowess while maintaining academic decorum expected of leaders of their caliber. Today’s elections were preceded by a two-week campaign period and the ‘Big Debate’, which saw candidates present their manifestos to prospective voters.
Prof. Elizabeth Omukunda won the coveted position of Dean for the School of Natural Sciences (SONAS); Dr. Paul Ogenga secured the School of Education (SEDU); Dr. Micah Mukolwe was elected to the School of Engineering and Built Environment (SEBE); and Dr. Evans Raballah took the helm at the School of Public Health, Biomedical Sciences and Technology (SPHB&T). Meanwhile, three (3) positions were secured unopposed, namely: Prof. Vitalis Ogemah for the School of Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences and Technology (SAVET), Dr. Dishon Wanjere for the School of Business and Economics (SOBE), and Dr. Gregory Sakwa for the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedical Sciences (SONMAPS).

They were presided over by the Registrar (Academic Affairs), Prof. Judah Ndiku, on behalf of the Returning Officer for the Deans’ Election, Prof. Hussein Golicha. While officially announcing the results, Prof. Ndiku noted that there were no disputes and commended the candidates for their cooperation throughout the electoral process.
As the new Deans take over office, the University community anticipates transformative leadership that will enhance academic excellence, drive research and innovation as well as elevate MMUST’s global standing. We recognize the efforts by all the contenders for putting up a brave fight in this contest. Such is the democracy we want to see and experience in institutions of higher learning.
