Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police Successfully Defends his PhD Thesis at MMUST

Doctoral student and Senior Assistant Inspector General (SAIG) of police in Kenya, Mr. Masoud Mwinyi Masoud has successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis in Peace Conflict studies at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).

Mr. Masoud’s study focused on conflict emanating from Lake Victoria along Kenya - the Uganda border. After his successful defense, Mr. Masoud paid a courtesy call to the Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof. Solomon Shibairo where they held talks on areas of possible collaboration between the two institutions. Prof. Shibairo congratulated Mr. Masoud for his dedication to education and for successfully defending his thesis. He also thanked him for choosing MMUST as his University of choice in pursuing further studies.

The VC further said that MMUST is committed to ensuring that it continues developing human capital in discipline services. He reiterated that the MMUST Nairobi campus was set up particularly to help senior government officials like Mr. Masoud Mwinyi, and Court of appeal Judge Dr. Said Chitwembwe among others to access quality programs the University is offering. He insisted that the two institutions need to have a working Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enable them to mutually work together.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Planning Research, and Innovation, Prof. Charles Mutai also congratulated Mr. Mwinyi saying that MMUST has a number of programs that suits the uniformed officers. He said that “As a University, we are proud to work with the police service and my office will fast-track the process of having an MoU between the two institutions to ensure that senior government officers also get a chance to pursue further education”

Similarly, Mr. Mwinyi applauded the able team of dons that facilitated the defense. He noted that there are over 131,000 police officers whom the University can tap in to enable access to higher education at various levels. He further stated that he is proud of MMUST as a destination for higher education because of its quality programs in Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies, Disaster Management, Criminology, and Social Work.

He reiterated the need to have an MoU between the two institutions for better engagements. Present during the courtesy call were the Director of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Stephen Odebero, Prof. Edmond Were, Prof. Iteyo, and Prof. Frank Matanga Rev. Dr. Elijah Odhiambo, and Dr. Ruth Simiyu.
