MMUST Establishes Institutional Partnerships Through Online Evidence of Collaboration in Tandem With Sustainable Development Goals

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) Webometrics Unit, has established various institutional partnerships with key stakeholders to generate online evidence of collaboration in tandem with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).  The two-tire strategy which involves establishment of online evidence of collaboration is aimed at promoting the use of ICT tools in trade and service delivery in institutions and entities within the Lake Region Economic Bloc. This strategy is steered by the Webometrics and Short Courses Coordinator, Dr. Dennis W. Ochieno.

On 1st and 2nd September, 2022, the team conducted a two-day mobilization exercise targeting Health and Learning institutions, businesses, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) and Community Based Organizations (CBO’s) within the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB)

Speaking during the event, Dr. Ochieno stated that this activity will certainly improve trade and livelihoods of communities within the LREB by the use of ICT tools in the establishment of online business connections and enhancing visibility.

 “Our focus is to determine the level of presence of web presence and develop capacity for website maintenance and online trade for Open Air Markets within this region,” said Dr. Ochieno.

Additionally, on 13th September 2022, Dr. Dennis Ochieno held a meeting with Busia Business Hub Chairman Mr. Peter Kubebea to deliberate on the possibility of having partnerships with various institutions (schools, universities, CBOs, NGOs, and Businesses to promote livelihoods of communities in Busia County Government.

The team which comprised of Ms. Anne Onyango, Mr. Hesbon Amwayi and Ms. Victoria Ochieno visited various institutions and markets including Shamberere Technical Training Institute (STTI), Lubao Primary School, Kakamega Primary School, Kakamega and Lubao Markets.

The team has also extended their desire to partner with Kakamega Natural Forest Catchment Conservation Organization (KANFCCO), Men and Traditions Against Aids (MTAA) and Muliru Farmers Conservation Group (MFCG). These are Community Based Organizations that promote community participation and sustainable development projects. They have also identified other key partners like Kakamega County Women Empowerment Project (KCWEP), St. Joseph The Worker Home for Mentally Challenged and Epilepsy, Feed and Tend CBO, Hybrid Chicks and Agro Ventures and Maraba Child Development Centre. The team is still continuing with mobilization activities where they will visit other institutions with the LREB.

Establishing partnerships and building relationships with fellow businesses are vital to the progress of businesses and institutions. Not only does a partnership increase your customer base, but it also provides opportunities to learn new strategies.
