Masinde Muliro University Of Science and Technology Enterprises Reforms Its Business Plan For Maximum Income Generation

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology Enterprise (MMUSTE), led by the Manager CPA Michael Wanjala, held a two-day workshop from 15th -16th June 2023, to reform their business plan for maximum income generation to the University. This workshop-themed ‘Programme for MMUSTE Sections' Business Plans Finalization and Training’ was aimed at improving the Unit’s operations to maximize its profits.

Speaking at the workshop, CPA Wanjala advised the MMUSTE team to provide standard products and services to their clients. He advised his staff to work toward their motto ‘Masinde Muliro, University of Choice, Mmust Enterprises Tuinuane’.

“Every successful business starts from a business plan; it is literally the backbone of an institution. Growth primarily comes through new customers and achieving repeat custom. This then determines your progress toward profitability. By mapping this all out on paper you’re giving yourself yardsticks to work towards. Let our focus be geared towards achieving our goal,” he encouraged.

The Director, Privately Sponsored Students Programme (PSSP) Prof. Ondiek Alala trained the team on the rationale and role of plans for the profit-oriented organizations. Prof Alala advised the team to be realistic and not be over-ambitious on matters of financial forecasts to be on the safe side.

He further explained the need to have a business plan and what one should consider when coming up with one. “The importance of the business plan is that it will your additional resources, and business opportunities and guide you on how to run your business,” said Prof. Alala.  
The Deputy Procurement Officer, Mr. Peter Maina educated the team on procuring processes. Similarly, CPA Stella Gacheri advised the participants to be good stewards and prudent finance managers.

The Marketing Officer, Mr. James Muriithi, took the participants through 'Training on Customer Care Protocols and Front Office Etiquette' where he highlighted the sales and marketing techniques. He stated that there is a need to understand your customer’s psychology and make your products and services unique with the right standards and packaging that will move your customers to patronize your products and not your competitors.

"The two key things that move your consumers is care and services therefore know how to package your services and products, and ensure consistency in your business’’, said Mr. Muriithi

The other presenters included Mr. A. Briwe, Ms. Wanyama, Mr. Opanga Manoah, Ms. Stella Amboka, and Mr. Collins Nakitare. Other members present were Mr. W. Onyango, Ms. Caroline, Ms. Immaculate Keyari- Technician, Mr. Evans Omondi-Agriculture Officer, Ms. Robella Waselwa -Cateress, Mr. Richard Kunani-Foreman, and Ms. Moureen Wanyama

A business plan is very important in managing any business effectively and is key to the success of every business. With the reforms made by MMUSTE, the Unit is well-positioned to be more profit-oriented to the University.
