Dr. David Barasa, from the School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS), received an award for the Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers in recognition of his research achievements. Dr. Barasa who is currently based at Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz from July 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023, is working on a project titled: Okhuuyisia burial ritual: An inventory of the Tachoni linguistic practices for the dead, together with Prof. Dr. Nico Nassenstein.
The project aims to establish how language is used to express culture, how cultural practices are transported through language, and how one of the many practices of a community in different cultural contexts (such as burial rites) are language practices.
