MMUST School of Education Hosts Education Experts from Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa for Teacher Development Engagement
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology’s School of Education (SEDU) on 24th September 2026, hosted education experts from the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa, in an engagement aimed at exploring opportunities for MMUST graduates to participate in a structured teacher development programme. The delegation, comprising Dr. Maina Kioko and Dr. Benard Dudi visited the University to recruit First Class Honours graduate teachers into the Academy’s Teachers’ Support Mentorship Programme. They interviewed seven prospective candidates, comprising five graduates and two students currently enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programme. The delegates were received by the Dean, SEDU, Prof. Moses Poipoi, who hosted them for a courtesy call at his office before they proceeded to MCU for a session with the candidates.

Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Poipoi thanked the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa, for extending the opportunity to MMUST graduates and expressed the School’s commitment to strengthening partnerships that support continuous professional development for teachers. “We endeavor to create more partnerships for professional development of our teachers, especially with regard to CBET,” he stated.

The recruitment process for the mentorship programme is highly competitive and involves multiple stages of interviews and presentations meant to assess the candidates’ confidence, communication, and critical thinking skills. Successful candidates will have an opportunity to join the Academy’s upcoming Teach Institute, where they will undertake an intensive three-week professional development programme covering areas such as Mathematics, English and Theory of Knowledge, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science and Humanities.

Undoubtedly, such opportunities are rare and provide a valuable platform for high-performing students and graduates to further refine their knowledge, skills and professional competencies. It is indeed a privilege to witness MMUST’s best-performing students from the School of Education, being recognized and given opportunities to sharpen their skills and prepare for an increasingly competitive global market.
