MMUST’S PARTNERSHIP WITH COUNTY GOVERNMENT OF KAKAMEGA AND COUNTY COMMISSIONER’S OFFICE LEAP-FROG’S REGION’S CONSERVATION AGENDA

MMUST, the County Government of Kakamega and the County Commissioner’s office have jointly started off an ambitious tree planting and conservation initiative that is set to completely transform the region’s forest cover and entire ecosystem. This grand Community Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative is one of the batch of initiatives and projects that the coalition will focus on in a bid to foster positive change in the County.

THE 2021 KENYA DAAD SCHOLARS VIRTUAL CONFERENCE SUCCESSFULLY KICKS OFF!

The 2021 Kenya DAAD Scholars Virtual Conference successfully kicked off on 15th June 2021 hosted in MMUST. The conference was officially opened by the Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Solomon Shibairo. Other members of the University Management Board present during the opening included DVC A&F Prof. Charles Mutai, DVC PRI Prof. Judith Achoka and immediate former Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Asenath Sigot.

The conference themed ‘Mitigating the impact of Covid 19 and future pandemics: Role of Academia’ will be ongoing until Friday, 18th June 2021. Today’s presentations were on the Sub-theme Food Security, Nutrition and Covid-19.

MMUST RESEARCH WORKSHOP REVEALS TREMENDOUS RISE IN UPTAKE OF ONLINE TEACHING AND LEARNING IN KENYAN UNIVERSITIES

A team of researchers from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology have established that the uptake of Online Teaching and Learning (OTL’s) methods have tremendously escalated and completely transformed teaching and learning in both private and public Universities in Kenya. The research workshop themed ‘The uptake of the online teaching and learning methods in Kenyan Public and Private Universities in response to Covid 19’ was held yesterday 14th June 2021 at the Kakamega Sports Club.

CO-OPERATIVE BANK DONATES KSHS. 50,000 TO MMUST

The Co-operative Bank of Kenya has donated Kshs. Fifty Thousand (50,000) to Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology to support the prizes and awards for the best student in the forthcoming graduation ceremony.
The money was handed over to the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo, by the Bank’s Kakamega branch Manager, Mr. Victor Wanjala. Present during the handing over was the Chairman Prizes and Awards Sub-committee, Mr. Dishon Wanjere.

MMUST SCHOLAR DR. HUMPHREY AGEVI PICKED FOR HIGH LEVEL TRAINING ON CLIMATE CHANGE CURRICULA FOR LECTURERS IN AFRICA

A MMUST Scholar from the School of Natural Sciences (SONAS), Department of Biological Sciences Dr. Humphrey Agevi, is among the 41 lecturers from 8 African countries selected to take part in a 4 day capacity building workshop in Climate Change Curricular for Lecturers in Africa. The workshop was organized by the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) Centre of Excellence in Climate and Development (ARUA-CD). ARUA-CD was awarded funds through UKRI for Strengthening Projects and Networks (SPAN). This award aims to build the capacity of lecturers to review their climate change Masters curricula and incorporate new developments in climate change research and curriculum innovation.

MMUST PARTNERS WITH PASGR THROUGH PEDAL ONLINE TRAINING TO BOOST PEDAGOGICAL OUTCOMES

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology through the Directorate of Curriculum Review and Development headed by Dr. Judah Ndiku, has partnered with Partnership for Africa and Governance Research (PASGR) to boost the pedagogical outcomes of staff in the institution. The timely partnership is foreseen to equip varied staff with key concepts and theories that will transform their instructional approaches for better learning outcomes. The pedagogical training dubbed ‘PedaL’ is key to improving teaching and learning as the Education sector continues to grapple with effects of the Covid 19 pandemic.

SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS ALUMNUS APPOINTED JUDGE

The School of Business and Economics (SOBE), MMUST congratulates Hon. Justice Ocharo Kebira on his appointment and swearing in by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta as an Employment and Labour Relations Court Judge.

Hon. Kebira is a 2016 MSc.  Human Resource Management graduate of MMUST, where he majored in Employee Welfare and Labour Relations. His thesis examined The Influence of ILO's HIV/AIDS Code of Practice on Organizational Policies and Programmes in Corporate Bodies.

Until his appointment, he had practised as an Advocate of the High Court in Bungoma for over 25 years. The University believes he is up to the task and wish him success in his new position. 

The University is proud of SOBE's Management, Leadership and Labour Relations Masters and Ph.D Programmes that are delivered by its dedicated and experienced faculty.

VARSITY RESEARCH TEAM EMBARKS ON HEALTH PROMOTION CAMPAIGN ON COVID-19 PSYCHO-SOCIAL APPROACH RESPONSE

A team of researchers from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), on 2nd June 2021, conducted a public awareness campaign across Ikolomani Sub- County in Kakamega County to sensitize the community on their research response on COVID-19 psycho-social approach. This is a research team, among others, funded by the University Research Fund (URF) to carry out research in the institution. The intensified campaign targeting the local community members encompassed messages designed in the native language for the purposes of reaching out to the area occupants.

ACTING VICE CHANCELLOR, PROF. SOLOMON SHIBAIRO, JOINS DIGNITARIES IN TREE PLANTING EXERCISE

The Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo, on 3rd June 2021, joined the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage, Amb. Dr. Amina Mohammed and the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Mr. Keriako Tobiko in a tree planting exercise at Iloro Forest Station in Shinyalu. The exercise was organized by the Kakamega Forest Heritage Foundation in conjunction with the World Safari Rally Championship.
