
MMUST’s Mr. James Wakungwi Sakwa Sworn In as Chairperson of Kakamega County’s Public Service Board Following Nomination by the Governor
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology’s Principal Medical Laboratory Technologist-Mr. James Wakungwi Sakwa, has been sworn in as the Chairperson of the Kakamega County Public Service Board (KCPSB). This comes after the County Governor-H. E FCPA Fernandes Barasa nominated him alongside members of KCPSB to Chair the Board, which has not been in operation since 2023. The swearing in ceremony took place on Wednesday, 7th May, 2025 at the Bukhungu stadium, and was attended by key officials and stakeholders, who expressed confidence in Mr. Sakwa’s ability to bring positive change to the County’s human resources.

Mr. Sakwa is not just an expert in his field, but he brings extensive experience to this new role. He has served on the Board of International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IFBLS) in Hamilton-Canada as a Director. “I was the first Vice President of the Federation of African Associations of Medical Laboratory Scientists (FAAMLS) in Yaounde-Cameroon. Additionally, I was the Vice President of the Federation of East African Associations of Medical Laboratory Scientists (FEAMLS) in Arusha-Tanzania and the emeritus President Association of Kenya Medical Laboratory Scientific Officer (AKMLSO),” said Mr. Sakwa during an interview with DCCM.
Currently, Mr. Sakwa is a member of the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB), as well as the Secretary General/Administrator, Association of Kenya Medical Laboratory Assessors (AKMLA). He is also the Chairman of MMUST’s TVET Institute, located in Webuye-Bungoma County.

Certainly, the new leadership marks the beginning of a transformative tenure for the County’s public service. We congratulate Mr. Sakwa on this appointment and wish him all the best as he takes on this new responsibility.
