
MMUST Hosts Professor Teresa Wasonga Under the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, through the Department of Science and Mathematics Education in the School of Education (SEDU), is hosting Prof. Teresa Akinyi Wasonga from Northern Illinois University, USA, under the prestigious Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP), with Prof. Catherine Aurah as the Host Fellow. Prof. Wasonga will be at MMUST from May 19 to August 12, 2025, engaging in a project titled ‘Co-development and alignment of competencies, curriculum, and assessment of teacher/principal preparation programs’ to meet the needs of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system in Kenya.

On 19th May, 2025, Prof. Wasonga, accompanied by the Dean- SEDU, Prof. Moses Poipoi, Associate Dean SEDU-Dr. Rose Opiyo and Prof. Catherine Aurah, paid a courtesy call to the office of the Vice Chancellor. During the meeting, they deliberated on strategies focused on strengthening research collaboration, mentorship for early career academics, and enhancing the quality of teacher education at MMUST. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo expressed the University’s commitment to building sustainable academic partnerships and welcomed Prof. Wasonga’s expertise in educational leadership and policy development.

During her fellowship, Prof. Wasonga will co-develop and review the Competency-based Education system and co-develop a robust teacher preparation program that seamlessly aligns with the Competency-Based Education (CBE) in Kenya. She will also engage in a series of impactful academic activities, including facilitating seminars on CBC curriculum and assessment.

This fellowship marks a major step in enhancing MMUST’s capacity in CBC-aligned research, curriculum reforms, faculty development, and international academic partnerships. All faculty and postgraduate students are encouraged to actively participate in the engagements planned during her stay.
