Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has participated in the 2026 Nyakach Constituency Career Fair. This was in an effort to support prospective students including youths from the region, to navigate their future career paths and academic goals. The event, held at the Nyakach Technical Training Institute grounds, was graced by the PS State Department for TVET, Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria. Organized by the Nyakach Constituency’s Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Joshua Aduma Owuor, the career fair brought together public and private universities from across the country, service providers in the sector, form four leavers and local youth as well as community. The MMUST team was led by the Director of Career Services, Prof. Robert Egessa.

Speaking during the official opening of the event, the Chief Guest, Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria revealed that in today’s world, the greatest qualification is the ability to apply knowledge. She noted that progress is driven by those who prioritize skill mastery over pure theory. “The future will not be inherited; it will be built by those who acquire the skills that shape it. We are training you with a clear direction and outcome in mind,” stated Dr. Muoria, urging educators to view their role not just as instructors, but as guides providing students with a definitive professional destination.
Commending Nyakach Constituency for its youth-centered development, Dr. Muoria described the career fair as a critical bridge between education and opportunity. She highlighted that Kenya’s training system offers diverse yet complementary pathways, as universities provide academic and research depth, while TVET institutions build practical competence and industrial capacity. “These pathways are not a competition, they are part of one national skills ecosystem. Kenya needs thinkers and makers working together to build a competitive nation,” she asserted.

Further, Dr. Muoria pointed to the implementation of Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET), noting that the labor market now demands problem solvers who can adapt to technology and deliver results. She encouraged those proceeding to university to pursue excellence with discipline, and urged those joining TVETs to pursue mastery with confidence, saying that TVET is not as a fallback, but as a strategic pathway for national development.
In his address, the Director of Career Services, Prof. Robert Egessa appreciated the MP for organizing the high-impact event, noting that it offered MMUST a platform to engage directly with the Nyakach community. Prof. Egessa described the region as a ‘serious educational hub’, citing the distinguished scholars it has produced, including Deputy Vice Chancellors serving at different Universities in Kenya as well as MMUST’s very own Prof. Benedict Alala, the Director Aids Control, Gender and Disability Mainstreaming.

“Nyakach is undeniably an academic giant, and MMUST is proud to be associated with this region through eminent scholars like our very own Prof. Benedict Alala. We look forward to more collaborations in future,” remarked Prof. Egessa
The host and Nyakach Member of Parliament Hon. Aduma thanked the participating institutions for bringing mentorship to Nyakach Constituency. He reaffirmed that education remains a priority in his developmental agenda for the constituency. “We are honored to have institutions of higher learning here to showcase their opportunities to our students. Nyakach values education as it is the only equalizer,” stated Dr. Aduma, as he encouraged the students and youths to take full advantage of the mentorship provided.

It is worth noting that this year’s participation marks a significant milestone in MMUST’s sustained engagement with the Nyakach community. These outreach efforts are already yielding tangible results, reflected in the steadily increasing enrollment of students from the region, a trend the University expects to see continue.
The MMUST stand saw high engagement from students across various high schools, many of whom were eager to learn how the university’s programs could help them achieve their professional goals. As the institution prepares to welcome the 2025 KCSE cohort, the Directorate of Career Services remains confident that this strategic showcase of the University’s diverse programs and rich heritage will inspire a significant number of Nyakach’s brightest minds to choose MMUST as their preferred institution of higher learning.
