MMUST Enhances Capacity for Nanotechnology
MMUST Nanotechnologist in the Department of Pure & Applied Chemistry, Dr. Benard O. Omogo, is currently a Visiting Scientist working with Prof. Nikolai Gaponik of Eychmuller Research Group in the Department of Physical Chemistry at TU Dresden. Dr. Omogo’s research is in Nanoremediation, which is a technology for reducing toxic chemical pollutants in the environment.
“The increasing levels of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) especially the Organochlorine Pesticides (OCPs) in our environment calls for a multi-faceted approach involving nanoremediation in tackling the menace. We are currently designing noble metal nanoparticles and transforming them into nanocatalyst aerogels that are superior to the traditional metal catalysts in degrading these OCPs.” Dr. Omogo said.
