MMUST Kicks Off ISO 9001:2015 Re-Certification Audit by Bureau Veritas Kenya

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has today, 24th July, 2023, kicked off its ISO 9001:2015 Re-certification Audit by Bureau Veritas Kenya LTD. The audit process, which involves the top Management and Heads of Cost Centres, will go up to Friday, 28th July, 2023. The exercise was flagged-off by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Students Affairs), Prof. Hussein Golicha, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo.

“MMUST has recently undergone a number of audits, including, the site inspection exercise by the Commission for University Education to verify the academic resources available to support the 14 proposed programmes,” said Prof. Golicha. He also pointed out that the Government has assessed the status of the ongoing proposed Engineering and TVET Complex, as well as associated works at the University. “I would like to assure the Bureau Veritas of our cooperation during the entire process,” added the DVC-ASA.

MMUST’s Director of Quality Assurance, Prof. Danstone L. Baraza, noted that the audit is a very important activity for the University as it ensures the implementation of an effective and efficient Quality Management System (QMS). “The 5-day exercise is aimed at confirming that the management system conforms with all the requirements of the audit standard, and that MMUST has effectively implemented its planned arrangements,” said Prof. Baraza. Further, he stated that the audit is meant to confirm that the management system is capable of achieving MMUST’s policies and objectives. “This activity will also enable us to identify areas of improvement regarding the management system,” he added.

“The scope of certification, which will only cover the activities of the main campus, is educational training, research and community engagement,” said Mr. Victor Kirima, an auditor and trainer at Bureau Veritas Kenya LTD, who is also the team leader in this particular exercise. Mr. Kirima, while presenting the audit plan, stated that the process will make use of observation, document reviews, interviews and sampling methods. “During the process, we shall be making conclusions in terms of strengths and non-conformities,” he said, adding that feedback shall be given to the auditee immediately. The other auditors from Bureau Veritas Kenya LTD on this exercise are Mr. Charles Ochieng and Mr. Moses Njogu.

The ISO 9001:2015 Re-certification Audit by Bureau Veritas Kenya LTD is evidence that Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology is committed to providing high quality education, as well as to improving service delivery in order to meet customer and regulatory requirements.
