Two Astute Researchers Win the Coveted European Union’s Mobility and Exchange Grant for Staff and Student

Two researchers from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), Dr. Rose Opiyo (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Catherine Aurah; have earned a grant award under the Erasmus Mobility Programme (KA171) worth 25,000 EUR which will run from 1 August 2024 – 31 July 2026. This is part of Erasmus KA171 Mobility Project and Exchange of Higher Education Staff and Students funding which external policy funds of the European Union primarily endorse. The project aims to strengthen student and staff mobility, international cooperation, policy development, social Inclusion and diversity, and capacity-building initiatives.

The two scholars of the Erasmus KA171 Mobility project will be part of the community of practice of EU internationalization and mobility ambassadors. The project will also facilitate the development of skills and competencies as part of professional development, creating new networks, increasing the quality of services and teaching offered to students, nurturing independent researchers, supporting academic enrichment, co-creation of innovative practices, sharing experiences and expertise, and addressing common challenges and opportunities in higher education research, innovation within partner’s institutions and at a global level.

The duo will be working with two Professors in the Department of Psychology at the University of Turin Italy.   As a University, MMUST is poised to benefit not only in the area of quality and relevance of learning experiences for staff and students but also in research collaboration with enormous potential of fostering innovation, sharpening skills, sharing expertise, and promoting access to modern resources. It will also be an opportunity for MMUST to benefit in terms of infrastructure and specialized facilities, multi-disciplinary collaborations, and cross-border projects. Staff involved in the project will be able to establish networks, exchange best practices, and develop partnerships with colleagues from other institutions to enrich their professional profiles.

Through the project, selected students will access professional development opportunities valuable mentorship, and international work experience. This will certainly enhance their employability in a globalized job market as they spend part of their studies at the hosting University of Turin- Italy.
