MMUST SECURITY TEAM PARTNERS WITH KAKAMEGA FOREST SECURITY DEPARTMENT TO BEEF UP STUDENTS’ SECURITY AT THE FOREST

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Chief Security Officer, Mr. Julius Mabia recently led the University security team in a partnership with the Kakamega Forest security Department. This is in a bid to beef up the security of MMUST students visiting the Kakamega forest.

MMUST AFRICAN WOMEN IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING (AWSE) GIVE AN ASSORTMENT OF DONATIONS TO STUDENTS AND STAFF AT CHEBWAI ADVENTIST COMPLEX IN KAKAMEGA COUNTY.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) on Friday, 5th November 2021, put smiles on staff and students’ faces when they gave an assortment of donations to Chebwai Adventist Complex community, in Kakamega County. The donation was courtesy of African Women in Science and Engineering (AWSE), MMUST Chapter. The donation included sanitary towels, hand sanitizers, liquid detergents, and MMUST branded masks. Additionally, eye experts from the University’s Optometry Department offered free eye screening and treatment to all the staff and students of Chebwai Complex. The event was graced by Rev. Prof. Judith Achoka who appreciated the partnership between the two institutions adding that the collaboration will yield greater achievements. She further cited the former Chief Justice David Maraga as a leader to be emulated. Prof. Achoka encouraged the students to work hard and be fully committed to righteousness.

MMUST OPTOMETRY AND VISION SCIENCES DEPARTMENT’S EXPERTISE IN EYE CARE ENHANCES THIS YEAR’S STANCHART MARATHON THEMED ‘RUNNING FOR A HEALTHY LIVING’.

The expertise of Masinde Muliro University of Science of Technology Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences has immensely enhanced this year’s StanChart Marathon themed ‘Running for a Healthy Living’.  They offered free eye screening, treatment and provision of eye care interventions. This was during the StanChart virtual run co-hosted by MMUST on Friday, 29^th October 2021.

DIGITAL MARKETING AND E-COMMERCE TRAINING BY AJIRA DIGITAL PROGRAM ONGOING!

We are delighted to inform you of the ongoing students training on Digital Marketing and E-Commerce by Ajira Digital Program at the Main Catering Unit. (MCU).

Ajira Digital is an initiative of the Government of Kenya launched and driven by the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT), Innovation and Youth Affairs to enhance youth employment in the country through provision of online jobs. In pursuit of this, the Government of Kenya in partnership with Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) and eMobilis are implementing the program in our local Universities through the Ajira Digital Clubs. 

OFFICIAL HAND OVER OF THE DIVISION OF ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE TAKES PLACE

The outgoing Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration and Finance), Prof. Charles Mutai, has today 2^nd November 2021, officially handed over office to the incoming substantive Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration & Finance), Prof. John Kuria Thuo. While handing over, Prof. Mutai congratulated Prof. Thuo on his appointment.

A BATCH OF STAFF SPONSORED BY THE UNIVERSITY SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES A COURSE IN BASIC AND ADVANCED SIGN LANGUAGE

Five (5) MMUST staff have been awarded certificates of completion by the Kakamega Deaf Association (KDA) after successfully undergoing training in basic and advanced sign language courses.

The team from KDA visited the University on 22^nd October 2021 under the coordination of the MMUST AIDS Control, Gender and Disability Mainstreaming Unit. This training, sponsored by the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, targeted staff in key sections of the University as a way of improving service delivery to People Living with Disabilities.

MMUST SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT (SEBE) REVIEW PROGRAMS TO MATCH MARKET AND TECHNOLOGICAL DEMANDS

MMUST school of Engineering and Built Environment (SEBE) has reviewed its programs to match the technological and market demands. The two-day review workshop took place on 28^th and 29^th October 2021 at the Farm View Hotel in Busia County.

MMUST’S DR. NICODEMUS NYANDIKO NOW HEAD OF ‘REGIONAL RESEARCH NETWORK ON DISPLACEMENT AND MIGRATION IN THE CONTEXT OF DISASTERS AND CLIMATE CHANGE FOR AFRICA'

MMUST’s Risk Mitigation Expert, Dr. Nicodemus Nyandiko has been appointed to head the steering committee of a ‘Research Network on Displacement and Migration in the Context of Disasters and Climate Change for Africa'. 

The Steering Group will comprise of: Dr. Nicodemus Nyandiko, Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology, Kenya (Chair), Professor Ademola Jegede, University of Venda, South Africa, Professor Edwin Abuya, University of Nairobi, Kenya, Dr. Cheikh Tidiane Wade, Assane Seck University, Senegal, Dr. Annette  Okoth, Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology, Kenya, Dr. Oluwatoyin Adejonwo-Osho, University of Lagos, Nigeria and Dr. Tamara Wood, Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law UNSW, Australia.
