
MMUST Conducts Orientation as It Ushers in Its 2025 First Year Students
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) commenced a comprehensive Orientation exercise for its 2025/2026 cohort of first-year students. This important activity that began on Saturday, 30th August 2025, is set to climax on Friday, 5th September 2025 with the much-anticipated Vice Chancellor’s address. The program is structured around the University’s Divisions, and is designed to familiarize students with MMUST’s academic environment, governance structures, and student support systems.

On Monday, 1st September 2025, the Division of Administration and Finance took center stage highlighting various presentations from the Directors and Coordinators, the Registrar, Administration, the Finance Officer, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration & Finance). Representing the DVC (Administration and Finance), Prof. Maurice Vincent Omolo encouraged the students to embrace discipline, integrity, and accountability as guiding principles in their academic and personal journeys at MMUST. He emphasized the importance of responsible financial management and the need to take full advantage of the resources and support structures provided by the University. Additionally, the Registrar (Administration), Dr. Eglay Tsuma, emphasized the importance of adhering to University rules, regulations, and administrative procedures. She assured the students of the Division’s commitment to efficient service delivery and a supportive environment that will enable them to thrive both academically and personally.

The day also featured orientation by the Division of Planning, Research and Innovation, where the Directors and Coordinators, the Registrar, Planning, Research and Innovation, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Research and Innovation) highlighted MMUST’s dedication to innovation and scholarly excellence. Speaking during the orientation, the Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Research and Innovation)- Prof. Peter Bukhala encouraged the new students to embrace a culture of creativity and research right from the start of their academic journey. “MMUST is not only a center of learning but also a hub for innovation and knowledge creation. We are keen on young innovators and researchers to nurture their ideas to grow into impactful solutions that change communities,” said Prof. Bukhala.

Reiterating the DVC PRI, the Registrar, Planning, Research and Innovation- Dr. Collins Matemba stated that the Division is dedicated to supporting students in developing research skills and advancing new knowledge.

On 2nd September 2025, the Division of Academic and Student Affairs, which directly oversees students’ academic journeys, took the first years through detailed sessions on academic structures, expectations, and support services. Presentations were made by the Deans of Schools, Directors and Coordinators, the University Librarian, the University Timetable Coordinator, the Principal of MMUST TVET College, and the Registrar, Academic Affairs. They outlined their respective mandates and the critical role in facilitating the students’ academic success at the University.

The Ag. Principal MMUST-TVET College, Prof. Stephen Odebero informed the first years about the College which is located in Webuye and serves as a hub for technical and vocational training. He noted that the College is instrumental in equipping learners with hands-on skills that complement academic studies. “We encourage you to take full advantage of this opportunity to become innovators and job creators,” said Prof. Odebero.

Similarly, the Registrar Academic Affairs- Prof. Judah Ndiku who was also representing the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs), encouraged the new students to take their academic responsibilities seriously and to make use of the support structures available to them. He further underscored the importance of discipline, consistency, and integrity in shaping their success at MMUST. “MMUST offers you every opportunity to excel, but your success will depend on the choices you make and the commitment you demonstrate,” stated Prof. Ndiku.

The week-long orientation exercise, which continues until Friday 5th September 2025, is designed to ensure that first-year students are well-grounded in MMUST’s structures, academic culture, and support systems. This is key in preparing them to thrive as they embark on their University journey.
