
Dr. Ferdinand Nabiswa Declared Dean-Elect as the School of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance Concludes Polls
Dr. Ferdinand Nabiswa has been declared the Dean-elect in the School of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (SDMHA) during the just concluded polls. The elections, which took place on Friday, 31st October, 2025, saw Dr. Nabiswa garner ten (10) votes out of the sixteen (16) that were cast, while contender Prof. Chrispinus Iteyo got six (6) votes. The results were officially announced by the Returning Officer, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs), Prof. Hussein Golicha.
Speaking after the elections, Prof. Golicha lauded the contestants saying that they had conducted themselves with decorum during the entire electioneering period. “After three weeks of campaigning, the elections have finally come to a successful end. The voters have decided,” stated the Returning Officer-Prof. Golicha. He appreciated the Deans Election Board for delivering a successful election.

Prof. Judah Ndiku, who was a member of the Board, revealed that the University considered the Dean’s elections as a serious undertaking and had facilitated the training of election officials which was conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). “This election has been conducted in adherence to the procedures and guidelines stipulated by IEBC and the University Election Board Statutes,” said Prof. Ndiku.
While making his acceptance remarks, Dr. Nabiswa pointed out that he owed his success to God, the University and the entire SDMHA fraternity. “ I appreciate my worthy opponent and senior in academics, Prof. Iteyo as well as the faculty for believing in continuity by voting me in as their Dean. I will unite all members of the School, giving everyone space and support to thrive. Together, we shall succeed,” noted Dr. Nabiswa.

Conceding defeat, Prof. Iteyo congratulated the winner and dean-elect, Dr. Nabiswa. “I accept the verdict and congratulate Dr. Nabiswa for winning this election. I am satisfied with the election process and pledge to support the Dean so that together, we drive the development agenda of the School forward. SDMHA is a School of Doctors and Professors, I therefore accept their decision,” he remarked.
Other members of the Board present at the election included Dr. David Barasa, Dr. Evans Raballah, Dr. Jairus Odawa, Dr. Samuel Waweru and Ms. Jocelyne who was the Secretariat. The Presiding Officer in this election was Mr. Zablon Obengo, assisted by the Deputy Presiding Officer, Mr. Kenneth Kathukumi. The clerks included, Ms. Loice Makoo, Ms. Jacqueline Maleche. Ms. Leah Imbagala, and Ms. Caroline Buluma.

Indeed, the propriety and collegiality exhibited in this elections reflect the discipline and professionalism that members of SDMHA possess. In this era where elections are usually marred with violence, propaganda and character assassination, such display by members of the academia is a breath of fresh air. This is how elections should be conducted!
