
The Commission for University Education (CUE) Carries Out Academic Quality Audit at MMUST for Its Engineering and Computer Science Programmes
The Commission for University Education (CUE) on 25th June 2025, visited Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) as part of its routine programme quality audit exercise. The visit is aimed to assess the University’s compliance with the required academic standards, focusing on two of its key programmes: Bachelor of Science in Civil and Structural Engineering and the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. The CUE team is led by Mr. Benson Kimani. The other officers include; Prof. David Gichoya, Prof. Peter Ndiba, Dr. Kennedy Malanga, Prof. Joel Kibiiy, Mr. Dennis Waitege, Ms. Lucia Mula and Ms. Elizabeth Onyango.

During a courtesy call to the office of the Vice Chancellor, the Commission acknowledged receipt of MMUST’s self-assessment reports for the two programmes under review. These documents are a key requirement in the quality assurance process, demonstrating the university’s commitment to continuous improvement and internal evaluation. This two-day exercise which is expected to end tomorrow, 26th June 2025, is steered by the Directorate of Curriculum Review and Development led by the Director, Dr. Teresa Okoth.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs)- Prof. Hussein Golicha expressed appreciation for the CUE’s role in maintaining quality in higher education saying that MMUST is dedicated to upholding academic excellence.
Representing the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Planning, Research and Innovation)- Prof. Edwin Wamukoya lauded the exercise adding that the University fully welcomes the quality audit by the CUE and recognizes it as an essential exercise in strengthening academic standards and institutional growth.

The audit focuses on various aspects including Curriculum Design and Structure; the Teaching and Learning Process; Programme Learning Outcomes; Faculty and Staff Qualifications; Student Enrollment and Progression; Assessment and Evaluation Methods as well as Facilities and Learning Resources.

Peter Cherop; Coordinator, Quality Assurance- Dr. Paul Ogenga; Eng. Bernard Omondi; Prof. Alex Khaemba; and the Dean of the School of Computing and Informatics, Dr. Daniel Otanga.

The audit is part of MMUST’s ongoing efforts to uphold the quality and relevance of its academic programmes. The outcome of the audit is expected to bring forth further improvements in the University’s academic delivery and administrative systems.
