The MMUST- National Defence University of Kenya collaborative agreement is set to bolster teaching and community service in Kenya. On 20th August, 2024 the two institutions signed a Collaborative Agreement (CA) in Lanet, Nakuru County. The signing ceremony was presided over by the MMUST Vice Chancellor Prof. Solomon Shibairo and the NDU-K Vice Chancellor Lieutenant General Jimson Mutai.
This collaborative Agreement is aimed at providing a favorable environment for the two institutions to work together in advancing higher education and research. The agreement between the two institutions will also enable staff and students to participate in exchange programmes, conduct joint research and publication, and share research facilities.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Prof. Solomon Shibairo applauded the defense force for the work they are doing in ensuring that Kenya remains safe. He further noted that the move by the National Defence University to seek for partnership with MMUST is the best decision and MMUST is determined to ensure that there is timely implementation of every clause in the Collaborative agreement.
“This partnership will enable the two institutions to leverage on emerging technologies to deliver educational content and impart knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that will not only have far-reaching changes in the education sphere but will be useful in contemporary work environments,” said Prof. Shibairo.
On his part, Lt. Gen Mutai underscored the importance of cooperation and partnership, reiterating that this agreement signing will usher in a golden opportunity to realize and implement common aspirations in advancing higher learning. He further affirmed that in collaboration with MMUST leadership, NDU-K will be fully committed to the realization and full implementation of each clause contained in the Collaborative Agreement, saying that it will yield mutual benefit for the two institutions.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor Planning Research and Innovation Prof. Charles Mutai stressed on the need for the two institutions to come together in realization of the common goal, which is to carry out research that will be of high impact and publishable in credible journals. “This Collaborative agreement is well aligned to MMUST’s strategic goal number one which is providing outstanding student learning experience which eventually leads to academic excellence,” said Prof Mutai
This exercise was organized by the school of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (SDMHA) led by the Dean, Dr. Ferdinand Nabiswa in collaboration with the Directorate of Academic Linkages and International Linkages (DIAL) under the leadership of Dr. Umulkher Ali. Dr. Nabiswa applauded NDU-K leadership led by Lt. Mutai for the progress the institution has made since its inception. He said that the School of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance is ready and willing to bring in the experts in handling disaster related areas.

Other members of the MMUST delegation present during the signing ceremony included Mr. Gregory Ombito, the University Legal Officer and Ms. Ruth Omega from the Office of the Vice Chancellor. NDU-K’s other team members present were the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Finance & Administration- Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a and Major General (Rtd) Patrick Amagola.
