MMUST and Ministry of Education Engage in Fruitful Performance Contract Negotiations

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) and the Ministry of Education has today, 27th September 2024, engaged in a fruitful Performance Contract (PC) negotiations. This signifies a critical step towards enhancing the quality of education and institutional accountability. These negotiations were steered by the Chairperson of the University Council- Dr. Pamela Sitienei is focused on establishing clear expectations and measurable outcomes that align with national educational goals. The meeting was attended by the University top managers and ministry representatives.

Dr. Sitienei highlighted the importance of these negotiations in aligning the University’s objectives with national educational goals. “This PC will not only hold us accountable but also provide a roadmap for enhancing the quality of education we offer. We are committed to meeting the expectations set forth in this agreement,” She stated.

Similarly, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo expressed enthusiasm for the engagement with the Ministry saying that it will enable the University to align with the national policies that will ensure we achieve our goals.

“We believe that at the end of this exercise, we shall establish a Performance Contracts to create a framework for accountability and continuous improvement in our service delivery,” said Prof. Shibairo.

Central to the discussions were the establishment of specific performance indicators, such as student enrollment rates, graduation statistics, research output, and faculty performance metrics. The exercise was organized by the Directorate of Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation led by the Director, Prof. Joseph Nasongo and coordinated by Mr. Henry Wati. 

As the negotiations conclude, MMUST aims to set a benchmark for other Universities in the region, demonstrating that accountability and high standards can lead to significant improvements in educational outcomes and service delivery. The signing of the Performance Contract is anticipated to take place soon.
