On 8th October 2024, delegates from Light for the World, led by the Project Manager- Ms. Racheal Njiru, visited Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology to discuss the organizations’ joint initiative to equip students with marketable skills. The team, which was officially received by the acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs), Dr. Evans Raballah, paid a courtesy call to the acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Moses Poipoi.

Prof. Poipoi emphasized MMUST's commitment to equipping students with essential skills for the job market. He also highlighted the increasing number of students with disabilities at MMUST, expressing hope for their continued inclusion in skill-building programs. He noted that more students are participating in internships each year, further demonstrating the University's commitment to providing comprehensive training opportunities.

“At MMUST, we believe in empowering our students with the skills they need to thrive in today’s competitive work environment. We are proud to see more students with disabilities joining our ranks, and we are dedicated to providing them with opportunities that enhance their learning experience,” he remarked.
Moreover, Dr. Raballah reiterated MMUST's mission to train all students to serve their communities effectively. He expressed enthusiasm for a fruitful partnership with Light for the World over the coming years, highlighting the mutual benefits of such collaborations. “Our aim is to equip every student with the tools they need to make a real impact in their communities. We look forward to working closely with Light to the World to achieve this goal,” he said.

Ms. Njiru shared insights into the training initiatives that her organization offers. “Our programs focus on developing soft skills and work ethics, which are crucial for students as they prepare to join the industry. We aim to equip them with vital skills such as CV writing, cover letter preparation, and interview techniques,” she stated. Ms. Njiru was accompanied by Ms. Donah Akoth.
The Director of Career Services, Prof. Robert Egessa, acknowledged both the University's efforts and Light for the World’s initiatives in preparing students to enter the job market successfully. He emphasized the importance of these skills, stating that the ability to present oneself effectively in the job market is essential. He added, “we appreciate the collaboration with Light for the World in ensuring our students are well-prepared.”

Notably, the MMUSO President- Allan Ochieng and Special Interests Secretary-Brian Omollo, were also present during the meeting. The visit from Light for the World reinforces MMUST’s dedication to fostering partnerships that enhance student skills and prepare them for successful careers. The partnership between MMUST and this organization will continue to empower students and promote inclusivity in all aspects of education
