Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has continued its discussions with Shikusa Borstal Institution (SBI) aimed at formalizing their Collaborative Agreement. On December 5th, 2024, a team from SBI, led by Senior Superintendent of Prisons (SSP) Mr. George Odera, HSC, visited MMUST to engage in a productive meeting with the Directorate of International Relations and Academic Linkages (DIAL). The team was received by Dr. Umulkher Ali, Director of DIAL. The primary agenda of the meeting was to review and enhance the draft collaboration agreement, which was initially proposed in 2022.

The discussions revolved around several collaboration areas, such as training programs for SBI staff, entrepreneurship initiatives, agro-based research, and student attachment opportunities in fields like social work, counseling psychology, agriculture, music and dance, sports science, and vocational training.
The collaboration is expected to entail; organizing joint seminars, workshops, career fairs, staff visit programs, and community outreach initiatives. Their discussions were also focused on integrating academic training, rehabilitation efforts, research, and innovation to benefit both institutions. The partnership seeks to create programs that will support the academic and juvenile rehabilitation needs of their communities, fostering positive societal change.
The other notable personalities present at the meeting included Prof. Leonard Samita Wamocho, Deputy Principal of MMUST TVET Institute-Dr. Samuel Waweru, Dean School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS), Dr. Rose Auma, Dr. Wangila Eric, and Dr. Everlyne Mmbone.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to review the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), which will clearly define the specific activities, projects, and financial matters related to the collaboration. This agreement will ensure a structured and mutually beneficial partnership, allowing both MMUST and SBI to work together effectively on initiatives that will benefit their stakeholders and the wider community.
