Preparations in Top Gear at MMUST Ahead of Refurbishing and Equipping Its Malteser International-Funded Simulation Centre

Preparations at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology are in top gear ahead of refurbishing and equipping the University’s high fidelity simulated laboratory, funded by Malteser International (MI), Germany. A team from MI-Kenya, led by the Health Program Manager, Ms. Joy China, who is also a key driver of the MMUST-MI collaboration, visited the University from 9th November to 10th November, 2022 to discuss the modalities of the project.

The African Women in Science and Engineering (AWSE)- MMUST Chapter Continues With Mentorship Program as They Donate Sanitary Pads to Keep a Girl in School

The African Women in Science and Engineering (AWSE)- MMUST Chapter, yesterday, 10th November 2022, continued with the STEM mentorship program and their mission of ensuring that female students do not miss their classes due to menstrual cycle by donating sanitary pads. This was patent during AWSE’s outreach activity to Mwiyala Secondary School - Kakamega. The Sanitary Pads Campaign is a key program that will certainly inhibit absenteeism among female students.

MMUST Cost Centre Heads Sign Cascaded Performance Contracts for the Year 2022/2023

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) managers have today 9th November 2022, signed the Cascaded Cost Centre Performance Contracts for the year 2022/2023 at the Golf Hotel, Kakamega. The signing ceremony was presided over by the Chairperson of Council CHRP, Dr. Musangi J. Mutua and the Vice Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration and Finance, Prof. John Kuria Thuo. This exercise was organized by the Directorate of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) led by Prof. Joseph W. Nasongo.

Scholars Lament Over Growing Prominence of Bandit Economy in Kenya

A team of scholars from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) and other institutions, have lamented over the growing prominance of bandit economy in Kenya. This was exhibited during a webinar held on Tuesday 8th November 2022, where the scholars gathered to deliberate on the rationale and impact of bandit economy. This webinar was organized by the Directorate of Research and Postgraduate Support in collaboration with the School of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (SDMHA) led by Prof. Peter Bukhala and Prof. Ferdinand Nabiswa respectively.

Addressing participants at the webinar, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo noted that banditry has caused great havoc in our country in terms of loss of human lives, destruction of property, cattle rustling and dislocation of populations.

MMUST’s Institute of Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Studies Conducts Webinar on Harnessing Indigenous Foods for Food Security and Disease Prevention, in Collaboration With the School of Public Health

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology’s Institute of Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Studies (IICKS), in collaboration with the School of Public Health, Biomedical Sciences and Technology (SPHBS&T), has conducted a Webinar on ‘Harnessing Indigenous Foods for Food Security and Disease Prevention.’ The Webinar, which took place on Friday, 4th November, 2022, is the second one that the Institute has organized with a School, in an effort to harness and document indigenous knowledge and cultures embedded in various disciplines.

Delegation From Windle International Kenya Visit MMUST in a Bid to Assess the Welfare of DAFI, Windle Sponsored Scholars

A Delegation from Windle International Kenya (WIK), on Tuesday 1st November, 2022, and Wednesday, 2nd November 2022, visited MMUST to assess the welfare of the DAFI Windle-sponsored scholars. DAFI (Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative) is a scholarship program that offers qualified refugee and returnee students an opportunity to earn an undergraduate degree in their country of asylum or home country. The team, led by the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Ms. Mary Nzyoki, was received by Dr. Rose Opiyo who was representing the Director of International Relations and Academic Linkages (DIAL), Dr. Catherine Aura.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has hosted the Chief Executive Officer of Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu (AKHK), Ms. Jane K. Wanyama, to discuss possible areas of collaboration between the hospital and the University. The CEO, who was accompanied by a team from AKHK, was received by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo, on Tuesday, 1st November 2022.

Women in Water and Natural Resources Conservation to Partner With MMUST for Implementation of Nature Based Solutions for Water Conservation

Women in Water and Natural Resources Conservation(WWANC) together with Nature for Water Facility teams yesterday, 31st October 2022 visited MMUST to partner with the University for implementation of nature based solutions for water solutions. This is set to take place during the upcoming Yala River Water Fund. The project is led by WWANC and supported by the Nature Conservancy and Nature for Water Facility. The Nature for Water Facility team is mandated by the Nature Conservancy, to lead the feasibility study for the water Fund.

The team led by Ms. Stella Wanjala who is the Local Lead- Yala River Water Fund, paid a courtesy call to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Planning Research and Innovation, Prof. Charles Mutai. The aim of the meeting was to deliberate, share concept, structure and operational framework for the Yala River Water Fund project that is now at the feasibility phase.
