
MMUST Steps Up Implementation of Its Internationalization Agenda as Staff Participate in the International Cooperation Summer Week, University of Life Sciences ‘King Mihai I’ of Timisoara, Romania.
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has stepped up implementation of its internationalization agenda. Five scholars from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) participated in the International Cooperation Summer Week at the University of Life Sciences ‘King Mihai I’ of Timișoara, Romania between 20th and 26th July, 2025. The purpose of the international summer week was to foster long-term academic collaboration and dialogue among higher education institutions, creating a common platform for exchanging ideas, exploring new Erasmus+ partnerships, and co-designing international cooperation projects aligned with global educational priorities.
The five-member delegation from MMUST was led by Erasmus+ contact person who is the Chairman of Department – Criminology and Social Work, Dr. Evans Oruta. Other members of the team included the Associate Dean -School of Arts and Social Sciences, Dr. David Barasa, Deputy Dean of Students and Senior Lecturer of History, Rev. Fr. Dr. Kizito Muchanga, Director- Directorate of International Relations and Academic Linkages, Dr. Ali Umulkher, and School of Arts and Social Sciences Coordinator – ODEL (Online, Distance and E-Learning), Dr. Nancy Gakahu.

Speaking to the Directorate of Corporate Communications and Marketing’s crew yesterday, Dr. David Barasa revealed that partnership with the University of Life Sciences in Timisoara has the potential to yield productive outcomes not only for the School of Arts and Social Sciences but for the entire university. ‘This partnership not only strengthens MMUST’s global academic footprint but also represents a transformative moment in MMUST’s mission to foster world-class education, cutting-edge research, and global collaboration,’ said Dr. Barasa, who is also one of the prolific researchers in the School.

Commenting on the status of the partnership, Dr, Oruta pointed out that the visit has started bearing fruits. ‘This high-level academic engagement, which marked a major milestone for MMUST’s internationalization agenda, achieved two key outcomes; 2 full scholarships were secured for students from the School of Agriculture that will enable them to study at the University of Life Sciences in Timisoara. As well as a commitment to future staff and student mobility, stated Dr. Oruta. He added that joint research initiatives andenhanced academic cooperation will be part of this arrangement.

Equally, Dr. Umulkher, Rev. Fr.
