MMUST Nominated for Futurize Academy Africa 2025, as Student Selected as Ambassador
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has been nominated for the Futurize Academy Africa 2025, a prestigious three-week program designed to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs tackling Africa’s most pressing challenges in healthcare and climate action. During the three-week period, a team from Futurize Academy Africa will train interested MMUST students and young alumni in innovation, and expand the University’s efforts in shaping a resilient future for the continent. Futurize Academy Africa helps businesses and universities to orient towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals to build a more resilient future for the world.
In a separate but related honour, MMUST student, Mr. Adongo Polycap Ouma has also been selected as a Futurize Ambassador. This dual recognition highlights MMUST’s growing reputation as a hub for innovation and its success in nurturing talent through real-world impact.

Speaking on the achievement, the Director, Science Park Innovation and Incubation Centre (SPIIC), Dr. Tecla Sum reaffirmed MMUST’s commitment to fostering excellence in its innovations. Additionally, she encouraged more students to join the University’s pool of innovators to expand the University’s talent and ideas.
“MMUST has continued to dominate the international innovation championship space and is committed to driving high quality innovations to catalyze the socio-economic transformation of the region and beyond,” said Dr. Sum.

In their letter to Adongo, Futurize Academy welcomed him to the journey of empowering students and shaping the future of innovation in Africa. Notably, the ambassadorship provides significant benefits, including such as leadership development, networking opportunities with industry leaders, and priority consideration for future Futurize programs.
Speaking during an interview, Adongo, a chemistry student, reflected on his journey, which was ignited by his passion for science, technology, and innovation at MMUST. “My journey has been guided by a desire to transform ideas into impactful solutions,” he stated, citing past projects that range from smart aquaculture systems to sustainable waste-to-energy innovations.
Adongo views the ambassadorship not just as a title, but as a responsibility to champion innovation, empower young minds, and create a ripple effect of positive change across Africa.
