Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has conducted an intensive review of its policies, as the Council moves to streamline the institution's processes and practices in tandem with international quality standards. The five-day exercise, which took place from 7th to 10th October, 2024 at MMUST Nairobi Liaison Office-KICC, was spearheaded by the Chairperson of Council, Dr. Pamela Sitienei, together with members of the University Council.
Speaking during the review at KICC, Nairobi, the Chairperson of Council, Dr. Pamela Sitienei pointed out that universities , like other organizations, require policies in order to implement plans, procedures and processes. She highlighted that policies would aid in ensuring highly professional service delivery across all University operations. “Policies are the sign posts that we shall use4 as a university to not only see where we are going but also track our progress over time. Policies are embedded with key measurable performance indicators which show how certain targets are to be achieved. The MMUST Council is committed and determined to ensure that the university is run in a professional, structured way and in alignment to global best practice,” stated Dr. Sitienei.

The Council members present during the exercise were, Dr. George Lutomia, Dr. Kennedy Ochieng Olungo, Ms. Susan Nyaboke Nyasinga, Mr. Peter Muhia Wanjiku, Ms. Grace Wanja Kimotho, Ms. Dorothy N.O. Kimeu, Ms Eunice Wakofula and Prof. Solomon Shibairo.
“We will ensure that these policies are implemented according to Council directives and international best practices,” pledged the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shibairo.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Planning, Research and Innovation- Prof. Charles Mutai presented the Intellectual Property Rights and the Research and Consultancy policies while the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration and Finance- Prof. John Kuria Thuo made a presentation on Asset Management and Income Generating Unit (IGU) and Enterprises, as well as the Security and Safety Policy. The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs)-Prof. Hussein Golicha, provided critical contributions to policies related to academics, examinations, teaching and student issues. Other key presentations were done by Prof. Judah Ndiku, Prof. Basil Ong’or, Prof. Danstone Lilechi, Dr. Collins Matemba, Dr. Lydia Anyonje, Mr. Vincent Chibini and Mr. Josephat Shigogodi.

The MMUST Council continues to be at the forefront of championing the University’s strategic direction and efficiency in service delivery. Undoubtedly, the policy review exercise will enable the University leadership to put in place structures and processes that will position MMUST among the top education providers in the world.
